What is Hot Mop Roofing- and Why You Should Know
Roofs are long-term investments meant to stay on a building for decades. But at one point, you may need to change it. Hot mop roofing is one of the options you can consider when you want to replace your roofing.
Want to know about hot mop roofing? Stick around.
What is Hot Mop Roofing?
This roofing involves spreading layers of hot asphalt on the base layer of the roof. This is followed by rolling down three felt- this is basically a bituminous membrane reinforced by glass fiber or polyester.
Asphalt provides waterproofing capabilities while the felt reinforces the asphalt.
In order to protect the roof from damage by UV rays, which may cause shrinking, drying, and eventually cracking, the roof surface is usually treated in several ways. For example through a spread of gravel over the asphalt.
This roofing is mostly used in commercial buildings with an exception of some porch roofs on homes and other flat roofing areas.
Why Hot Mop Roofing?
Here are some of the reasons why you should consider hot mop roofing
- It is a proven roofing method
- It is a long-lasting option
- Comes with a warranty that is viewed as above average
- It is easy to build up the low spots of the roof
- It easily conforms to irregular decks or roofs with many protrusions such as HVAC units, vents, stacks, and chimneys
